Anchor Habits

What an amazing question; and one worth considering. If your goal is to run a marathon then you will train to run miles every day. That is intuitive. Let’s assume your goal is a little more nebulous, like… better health and more energy. More specifically, less fat and more muscle. What are some things you can count on yourself to do every day, or week, to move you in the direction of that goal? A good start would be a daily walk or gym visit. It might be intermittent fasting or your daily bacon and egg breakfast. Maybe you listen to a health podcast as an anchor habit. Really, it is anything that gets you excited about your journey or helps you feel better about a setback on the path. But please don’t think of these as something you do out of guilt as an atonement for a perceived ‘sin’! It is not about that at all! These are checkpoints in your day that happen to matter what. Anchor habits are vital because we all experience things that try to pull us off track. It could be a busy schedule or a doughnut we didn’t say ‘no’ to. Having these habits in place brings our focus back into alignment, like a check point. Much like making your bed in the morning can set the stage for a productive day, this is a habit that keeps you tied to your goal. So have a few daily and weekly things you can count on yourself doing to keep you on the right path. How many can you think of?
