Weights Without the Gym

Listen- if you enjoy the gym, THAT’S GREAT! My daughter prefers going to the gym to an at-home workout. She needs to get away from it all and be immersed in a distraction free environment with like -minded people. It makes sense. But personally, I prefer to save time it takes to drive there, interacting with people can sometimes be draining, and there is the fear I will be judged.

For my fellow home-bodies, I have some exciting information to share! I follow Cheryl Coulombe on her super successful channel Lift with Cee. She has weight training videos tailored for older women looking to lose fat through muscle growth. Her workouts series varies from 20, 30, to 45 minutes long depending on the amount of time you wish to invest. She is a certified personal trainer who doesn’t talk too much or go to fast. I have been enjoying working out with her for the last year and a half and can see and feel improvement.

I was hesitant at first to invest in my own set of dumbbell weights without being sure about my commitment to this but I must say, a few weeks in and I knew this is so do-able I was ready to get serious and purchase my set on Amazon. Until you get to that point, there are things around your house that can be used as weights. Try soup cans or water jugs, even tape some water bottles together or stuff some heavy books in a grocery bag if you are ready to take it up a notch. Rice or sugar bags taped up well with a rope thrown in as a handle would do nicely. There are tutorials online for constructing them or you can click Ideas for Homemade Weights – We Travel and Blog for a step-by-step tutorial on how to construct them.

I would encourage you to give lifting a try, whether you are pro-gym or not, and see if it is something you find yourself looking forward to. Give yourself some grace and time to find what fits your personality and lifestyle the best. If you need an accountability partner, you can always reach out and book a free discovery call with me. We can talk about what works, what doesn’t, and how you can feel supported on this journey to a better you.
