Stealthy Progress

Progress is not always met with fanfare. Success is not always noticed. Is the weight you lost not being recognized by family or friends? Was any one there to congratulate you when you left the donut in the breakroom untouched? Maybe you met your workout goals every day this week - now what? Did you set and stick with a boundary with a relative over Thanksgiving? Have you decided to take charge of your finances or make time for spirituality? So, you had a major breakthrough, a shift in perspective, and yet no one knows or cares anything about it.

Progress is not always loud, obvious, or picture worthy. Most progress is made through quiet, messy, and overlooked efforts. Sometimes we rely on extrinsic motivation and rewards if we are not careful. Are you making better choices than this time last year? Than last month? Than last week? Are you making (and moving toward) relationship, health, or career goals? Are you taking responsibility for your actions and course correcting as you go? Great things happen in silence and there is often a big lag between when they happen and when they are perceived. And they may never be perceived or appreciated as they should.

Take a moment and sit with how you feel about your progress. To be able to trust yourself is a gift. Give yourself credit and acknowledge the strides you are making.

If you are a woman over 40 who is ready to take charge of her health but don’t know where to start, book an appointment with me. I can help you set realistic, achievable, measurable fitness and nutrition goals and, when you make progress, we can celebrate. Together.
